Meet the Shaka Team - Ryan Moody

Shakas and Snatches

Hey Hey hey!  It's Shaka_Josh. We're continuing on with the new blog series called, "Meet the Shaka Team". In this series, we'll be focusing introducing one of our staff, athletes, or ambassadors. Our hope is that you get to know us as a company better.

In this episode, we interview our CrossFit Games Athlete, Grid Prospect, and World Record Holder Ryan Moody. We met Ryan a few years ago on Oahu, where he frequently visits, and have been friends ever since. He is a great role model, speaker, and overall athlete. Ever interested in learning what the life and mindset of a world record holder entails... Look no further.

Tell us a little a bit about yourself. Where you’re from? And you’re athletic background.

I am from Dallas, Texas. I played mostly traditional sports growing up, as well as I was in Martial Arts and Gymnastics early on in my youth. I played basketball from about age 5 up into High School. After High School, I played Basketball in rec leagues as well as Flag Football and Sand Volleyball.

What are your main training goals right now?

Currently my primary focus is to train to break another world record. The goal is to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, and perform  the Highest Standing Box Jump at nearly 20,000 feet.

If you had to pick 3 top training tips, mindsets, or tools, what would they be?

  • The Whiteboard Mindset, which is taught at my seminars and some speaking engagements.
  • Compare yourself to no one else, but yourself.
  • Absolute strength is KING. Learn from some of the best in the world and remain open minded to new or alternative forms of training.

How do you handle bad training days?

Having bad training days is the norm. It's part of the process. If you're not having an occasional bad or off training day, you might reconsider your training regimen.

What is your morning routine?

I head to the gym in the early morning. Eat a Zone Diet Solutions breakfast meal, coach, then train myself.

What do you love most about the Shakas and Snatches and the Team?

The team is made up of a diverse pool of talent. From various backgrounds, and with various abilities. The team is a melting pot of AWESOME!  The gear is awesome, I literally wear one Shakas and Snatches item EVERY day!
